Rory Lynch, Senior Associate
Rory is a Senior Associate at Vardags. He is a specialist in all areas of media litigation, with a particular emphasis on reputation management and protection, libel and defamation, and privacy.
Rory acts for private individuals, many of whom have publicly prominent roles in industries as diverse as politics, music, sport, film, and television. He also acts for high- and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, including those from the international business community and royal houses. Rory's aim is to safeguard their reputations and privacy, often from the increasingly hostile and transient world of social and online media and platforms.
In addition, Rory advises C-Suite executives and companies on the protection and management of their reputations and brands. Such clients range from UK-based SMEs to multi-national corporates as well as organisations such as charities, public broadcasters, and publishers.
Rory has developed a particular expertise in social media law, such as Twitter libel ("Twibel") and online harassment and bullying. He acted for TV's Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis in his ground-breaking, multi-million pound defamation settlement with Facebook regarding scam adverts featuring his image without permission. Rory has also successfully acted for numerous celebrity clients in the phone hacking and fake sheikh litigation in the High Court.
Rory is experienced in online data protection cases such as the "right to be forgotten". He regularly appears in the High Court and has successfully secured injunctions to block sensitive publications, both online and in print.
Rory is a recommended lawyer in Legal 500 for Reputation Management, and is part of the department shortlisted for the CityWealth Magic Circle awards.
Rory read Philosophy and Theology at Durham University and completed the GDL and LPC at BPP University Law School in London.
