Vardags named as one the UK's leading female-powered businesses

We are delighted to announce that we have been featured in JP Morgans inaugural league table of the Top 200 female-powered businesses in the UK!

The table, commissioned by JP Morgan and carried out by Beauhurst, studied the 6,085 high-growth companies in the UK that are founded, led or managed by women. To determine the top 200, the researchers applied three metrics – growth in sales, headcount and valuation.

Vardags was ranked as the third-highest legal services firm and the highest ranked law firm outside of the North of the England.

Alongside the construction of this ranking, which can be viewed in full here, the report also included data relating to the performance of female-powered firms. In 2020, female-powered businesses raised £2.3 billion in equity investment – a new record and a 41% increase from 2019.

The outlook was not entirely positive, however, with researchers finding that companies predominantly led by women saw a 27% decline in seed-stage equity deals compared to 2019.

Alongside this performance data, the researchers also studied the sectors and regions with the highest density of female-led businesses.

According to their findings, the high-growth craft industry sector was the most dominated by female-led businesses, with these companies accounting for 42% of the sector. While London is home to the most female-powered businesses (2,189), when percentage share is considered, Scotland has the largest proportion, where they make up 22% of the high-growth company population.
