Ayesha Vardags discusses her desire for flexible maternity leave

Ayesha Vardag expressed her desire for a more flexible approach to maternity leave in an article with Inews. She shared her personal experience of returning to work within weeks of giving birth to her first child at the age of 26. Even at the age of 50, when she gave birth for the fourth time, she chose not to take any maternity leave. She returned to the office the day after giving birth, often bringing her baby into internal meetings and breastfeeding in the office.

Although some people found her approach surprising, Vardag believed that longer maternity leaves could isolate individuals and make them feel disconnected from the world. She also highlighted the dilemma faced by women who feel they cannot have children as it may restrict their career and then leaving it too late.

Vardag strongly believes we need to break down the barriers between work and parenting. She encourages her staff to have children and return to work when they feel ready. She firmly believed that work and parenting can coexist but we need to reassess traditional norms and approaches.
