Le Tour de Vardags 2018

Thea Dunne
Le Tour de Vardags 2018
Last year, in support of Intermission Youth Theatre, Vardags embarked upon one of our most ambitious challenges yet. Le Tour de Vardags: a fundraising cycle tour between our nationwide offices covering 5 days, 4 English cities and 387 miles.

An unmitigated success (save a broken finger and a few wrong turns) Le Tour returns this year with an even bigger band of cyclists.

The tour will see our cyclists fly past four of the Vardags offices, kicking off in Newcastle on 22 September, reaching Manchester the following day and pedalling into Cambridge on 25 September before crossing the finish line in London on 26 September.

All their efforts are in aid of Intermission Youth Theatre, an arts-based youth mentoring programme that empowers young people who are at risk of offending, ex-offenders, or lacking in opportunities, to improve their lives through theatre. IYT takes reimagines the enduring works of Shakespeare to shed light on modern issues that young people are affected by: knife crime, gang warfare, postcode rivalry, rage, jealousy, betrayal. Every year at IYT culminates in a four-week run of professional production, with workshops, a Summer school, mentoring and pastoral care along the way.

Last year, the very first Tour de Vardags raised £2,825.00 for the charity. Cycling this year, in the hope of pushing that figure higher, are Le Tour veterans Mark McCullum, Rob Conway and Mollie Van Geest. They are joined this year by Director Charlie Bell plus a number of colleagues from our legal and business teams who will join for legs of the journey.

We believe that engaging young people with Shakespeares work can help enhance their dramatic creativity and confidence, raise their ambitions and aspirations, as well as develop their critical thinking skills to better prepare them for making life choices. - Intermission Youth Theatre
