Press around the world reported on the latest hearing in the divorce between Malaysian former beauty queen Pauline Chai and her tycoon husband Khoo Kay Peng.
The hearing focused on the Laura Ashley chairman’s failure to comply with court orders compelling him to pay his wife £50,000 in interim maintenance. The husband was described as “feckless” in court for his refusal to satisfy the orders, in words which were reported in the Malay Mail, Bloomberg and the Daily Telegraph. Ayesha Vardag, who represents Pauline Chai in her divorce, said “his flagrant decision to breach the judge’s order and pay her not one penny is particularly shameful.”
The husband was further criticised for not making a single offer to settle the case during the course of proceedings, and was accused of “thumbing his nose” at the English proceedings.
