Getting to know our Newcastle office

Getting to know our Newcastle office

On Tuesday 3 January, the Georgian doors of our much-anticipated Newcastle office opened for business. Situated in the heart of the city centre, in Grey Streets prestigious Earl Grey House, the office is home to three new stellar team members.

The wonderful Nicky Hunter and Susanne Shah join Vardags Newcastle as directors, offering a fully fledged family law service for those based in the North East. Completing this trio is paralegal Beth Courtney-Walker, who joins us on our Graduate Training Programme.

The team

Recognised as a leader in her field in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, Nicky is highly experienced in a range of family law issues. She particularly specialises in cases involving complex financial issues arising on separation following marriage, civil partnerships and unmarried relationships.

Having previously been Head of Family Law at a firm in the North East, Susanne brings with her a wealth of experience in high value and complex financial proceedings arising from family breakdown. Susanne deals with all family matters including children disputes, living arrangements and contact disputes, as well as child relocation both within the UK and internationally.

Beth completed the LPC with commendation at Northumbria University last year. Here, she partook in the student law office programme to provide pro-bono advice on a range of family law matters to clients for which she achieved a distinction.

The location

The Newcastle office is Vardags fifth in the UK, launched just months after Vardags Manchester opened its doors.

Of this latest move, our Founder and President Ayesha Vardag told Business Quarter Newcastle and the rest of the North East has been sorely neglected in terms of inward investment and I wanted to do something about that. Places like Newcastle, she continued, are bursting with talent and potential and need companies to believe in them and bring work, jobs and opportunities.

Its perhaps fitting, then, that the Newcastle office is located on the historic Grey Street, built by ambitious local developer Richard Grainger in the 1830s to become a thriving centre for business and commerce.

We are absolutely delighted to now offer individuals in Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and the Tees Valley our bespoke family law service. For contact details, or to learn more about our Newcastle office, please click here.
