Staff at Cambridge's newest law firm didn't let last night's bomb scare get in the way of the celebrations that marked the opening of its new office.

Vardags was holding a drinks reception at its new base in St Mary's Passage when police officers arrived to evacuate guests due to the discovery of a suspicious package in King's Parade.

Two controlled explosions were carried out, and the item turned out to be non-suspicious.

Ayesha Vardag, Vardags’ founder and president, said: "The police were lovely. Super-efficient and terribly apologetic about breaking up the party. We were very happy decamping en masse to The Eagle and carrying on there before returning to the office for late-night dancing. No power on earth can stop a Vardags party."

The company specialises in providing legal services for high net worth individuals and their businesses.

"I love being back here - Cambridge is such a hotspot for both intellectual and tech-industrial brilliance," added Vardag.

"It's all about creative thinking and cutting edge innovation, within a solid framework that respects traditions, and that's exactly the ethos at Vardags.

"I love the fact that we're the only HNW law firm in the historic centre. The offices feel like a private residence or particularly grand college rooms. We're bringing our personal, bespoke approach to meet all our HNW/UHNW clients' legal needs somewhere that feels like home."
