Ayesha Vardag comments on the strain the summer holidays puts on relationships

In a recent conversation with Mail Online, Ayesha Vardag discussed the potential stressors that can arise during the summer break, which can put significant strain on relationships. According to Vardag, the unfortunate truth is that for thousands of couples across Britain, the aftermath of summer often leads to separation, a situation she describes as a 'desperately sad reality'.

Vardag stated that every year, they encounter clients who have carefully planned their holidays, only to find these trips to be the final straw for their already struggling relationships. She suggested 'Never are the fault lines in your relationship going to be more exposed than when you are away from your day-to-day life. The pressure is on for holidaying couples.'

Vardag also offered a more optimistic view, 'in my experience…holidays offer precious time together as a couple which is crucial for building, working on, enjoying your marriage. However, she understands that, 'sadly for couples this time together comes with the realisation that things are beyond repair.'

To help couples avoid the pitfall of a post-summer split, Vardag provided some advice. She urged couples remind themselves that they are a couple not just parents. She commented, 'All too many couples fall into this trap when they have a family. You're tired and have a handful of children to contend with and forget that your partner was the reason for it all. She advises couples don't neglect their sex lives. In her experience, 'When the sex life dies, the relationship follows.'

In addition to this Vardag suggests couples make an effort to split the chores and avoid hiding behind a screen to ensure your partner feels valued. Finally, she suggests avoiding overspending as, 'Nothing puts a strain on families like financial worries.'
