At a time of year when the press is full to the brim with stories of divorce, it makes a change when tales like this turn up.
Aberdeen couple Roz and Ian Ellis originally married in 1968. They were married for 23 years, during which time they had three children – Ian, 45, Stewart, 43, and Ewan, 36 – before divorcing and remaining apart, coincidentally, for a further 23 years.
The pair remained friends over the years, and they now have eight grandchildren. Both remarried, though were also both widowed.
Fate intervened in 2013 when their eldest son Ian, now residing in Tasmania, came home for his brother Stewart’s wedding. Ian was staying with his dad, and Roz kept ’popping over to see the kids’ at her former husband’s house, according to the Daily Telegraph.
When the younger Ian and his family went back home to Tasmania, Roz continued going over the house and the former couple’s romance blossomed anew.
The couple realised what was going on in January 2014, and subsequently decided to remarry. The pair married on 3 January 2016 in a low-key ceremony in their home city of Aberdeen, attended by close friends and family. Roz had even kept her original wedding ring, bringing their relationship symbolically, as she told the Daily Record, “full circle”.
The story comes hot on the heels of Vardags’ revelation that despite what the press say about the notorious ‘Divorce Day’ or ‘Blue Monday’, very often the rush to the divorce lawyer in January is an attempt to save a marriage rather than to bring it to an end.
