Cohabitation & Separation

Cohabitation Agreements

A well-planned cohabitation agreement can avoid uncertainty and potential injustice.

We advise that one should be considered in every case in which couples who live together share finances or depend financially on one another. Every couple makes its own arrangements and we work closely with clients to find the right solution for them.

Cohabitation Breakdown

The government has announced plans to give financial and property rights to cohabitants and the law commision has made recommendations. However, at present, cohabitants have to rely on general property and contract rights, plus a few special rights for their children, to resolve their affairs if the relationship breaks down.

Even a long-term cohabitant can find him or herself in a very vulnerable position. We work forensically in these circumstances towards achieving justice and a secure future for our clients despite the limitations of the law.
