Amber Heard files for divorce from Johnny Depp

Amber Heard files for divorce from Johnny Depp

After 15 months of marriage, actress Amber Heard is to divorce Johnny Depp, on the ground of irreconcilable differences.

Court documents obtained by celebrity news site TMZ state that Heard filed for divorce on 23 May at Los Angeles Superior Court. She listed the date of separation as one day prior to this.

The news comes just days after the death of Depps mother.

Perhaps the most surprising element of the news is that, according to TMZs sources, the couple had no prenuptial agreement. California is a community property state, meaning that all assets and earnings acquired during the marriage is marital property, unless proven to be gifts or inheritances, and thus should be divided equally.

The court documents show that Heard is seeking spousal support, which Depp is reportedly fighting, through divorce lawyer to the stars Laura Wasser. Depps net worth is estimated at $400 million.

Its been a turbulent year for the pair: in April, Heard was spared a prison sentence, but received a $1000 fine and a one month good behaviour bond, for illegally smuggling the couples two Yorkshire terriers into Australia.

This was Depps second marriage. Prior to his launch to superstardom, he married make-up artist Lori Allison in 1983. The pair divorced two years later. Although neither union produced children, Depp is a father of two through his fourteen-year relationship with French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis.
